Meath is home to the Nialls and Niafers.

TaraNow
Meath is now the areas of Westmeath and Meath as well as parts of Cavan and Longford. In Meath is the ancient capital, Temuir (Tara), a royal site for over 500 years. In what is now Westmeath, all five provinces of Ireland converged at the Hill of Uisnech. A stone called Aill na Mirenn (the stone of boundaries) still marks the place where a huge gathering was held annually.

From the 8th - 11th centuries, what is now Co. Meath was part of the petty kingdom of Brega.

This area is not exactly the same as the ancient and medieval Mide (meaning "middle place") from which the name Meath is derived.
