What's New In The 'Hood?
Just opening in The Gymnasion District of Olympia is Ancient Games. Ancient Games is the new property of Bacchus Isocrates for housing all his interactive word games. Currently he has two word scramblers, and one word find. Word is he's working on another scrambler for Prometheia in Hellas, which will be available during the festival, at the event's chosen location. After that it can be found at Ancient Games. Bacchus is also taking suggestions for new Scramblers and Finds, and if the members and Scribes of any world need one for an event, just give him a shout.

Every edition, we like to ask one of our AW cives to share their thoughts. Here are those of Celtia's Bridgette Cormac. All we can say is - hear, hear!

February has developed into the month of Love, couples and friendship with the proliferation of candy, cards, and flowers in the stores. Across the world the mutations of a St. Valentine's Day has transfigured from a church holiday of an early church martyr (there are three possibilities- two near Rome as priests buried on Flaminian Way) into cupids and chocolates for your sweetheart...but I am not here to bemoan the commercialism of another holiday gone awry, but of the heart (no pun intended) of this month as love and friendship.

AncientWorlds is a unique community. We are brought together by a common thread of interests - love of history, role playing and socializing. The friendships here are unique also. Sometimes (rarely) we have to be reminded of the infamous CoC. Mostly we get to live it up and have our shrouded selves out and about a Bacchanals and parties, quizzes and contests, threads in groups, homes, and hoods. And grams - sometimes the only place many of us break out of character to let little bits of our real self show to our friends.

I am constantly reminded when viewing the Daily Index or the welcoming threads that though history is what draws us here, a welcoming hello and the possibility of a flapping scroll or gram waiting for us brings up back everyday.

Our friendships here should be nourished and fostered, remembering that the balance of our real life with our wonderful virtual life is very important here. I would not hesitate to close my laptop and say goodnight if my husband wanted to spend undivided time together. But I do cherish the fetes, role play, knowledge and love and friendship of all here.

As Chaucer wrote in Parliament of Foules we read:

For this was sent on Seynt Valentyne's day
Whan every foul cometh ther to choose his mate.

Though often AW is not a dating service (except for a few famous Celts and Egyptians most of us know), it is a place of friendship, not in pairs but in flocks, gaggles and huge piles of great and lovely friends.

A Photo Guessing Game That Won't Leave You Guessing

You know who this is...
Guess who?
Some AWers may be like old friends to you, but can you identify them in pictures? Find out on March 5 in our AW Photo Guessing Game, which was inspired by the legendary Mr. Rogers Neighborhood Game and will be hosted by The Americas.

Photos of AW members will be displayed with clues for participants in the competition to puzzle over and guess the identity of those pictured. Various plaques will be awarded to all contestants, depending on their number of correct guesses. At the moment we have collected about thirteen photos, ranging from cute childhood pictures to recent digital photos - and the more the merrier! Photos will be accepted until February 28. Email or leave a scroll for Aynara MorningStar if you have a picture of yourself that you want to share!
