LOOK NO BEARD
The
official RL Photo of me. In the interest of full disclosure,I must tell
you that it was taken 6 years ago when I was 63 and I am somewhat grayer
now, but it is the latest I have. Did I mention that I am one of the
worlds really great photo re touchers? This is the approved version. If
he looks a bit sleepy it was late at night in a club.
I am what is called the perennial student. That was
my real profession through 27 years as a regularly admitted student in
various colleges and universities with a straight A average and no degrees.
One might ask how such a thing could be achieved, it was not easy. You
have to change your school and your major a lot.
That was my day job. on the side I worked in many professions
from years as a bartender to years as a college lecturer and often both
at the same time while attending classes.
Majors in all totally useless subjects like Fine Arts,
Music, and Science. The useful things I learned behind the bar.
I was able to take an early retirement at 55 and get
down to some serious studying at last. Along the way my wife brought
me a strange object one afternoon. It was new on the market and it was
called an Apple. It was a big clumsy box with a little screen. Cool!
you could play Pac Man and watch Vanna go back and forth and turn the
letters on the Wheel Of Fortune Game. Little did I realize what I was
getting into now.
I was one of the first private citizens in the world
on line with the original server called Mosaic. In those days you took
a book to your computer and read while you were waiting for downloads. It
all changed and it changed fast. I've been doing rather well keeping
up with it. It helps to have a wife who teaches computer sciences and
is a professional web producer so that hardware and software is a tax
deduction for the business.
I came to Ancient Sites early. Like a lot of people,
I found an article about it in Archaeology Magazine and went right to
my computer to join. I was still working three jobs and had to drop out
for time reasons just before Ancient Sites went down.
Then one day, I stumbled upon Ancient Worlds on the web
and discovered that I still had a membership. Good timing AW. I now had
all the time I wanted and I came back. I had one of the first memberships
in AS. I had to call Jot on the phone to get it as they were not being
offered yet, but I got it. I did the same at once for Ancient Worlds.
Do you see a thread here? I am naturally a very active
and pushy person. Under the mentorship of some kind and generous AW scribes,
I began to take my usual active role. Well now, here I am.......
