House Building Time in Hellas

For those interested in the neighborhoods, good news. As of September 4, the 'hoods are open to all members of AW. You can purchase one of three types of properties available in any of our 35 districts: small
(oikidion), middle-sized
(oikos) and big
(megaron). Full details on how to purchase property can be found
here.
If you're looking for a home in Hellas but aren't sure where to start searching, try Bacchus'
Hood Guide, or select one of the Greek districts from the pulldown menu below. Whatever your interests, there's bound to be a 'hood you can call home.
Note: At present not all of our cities have districts, but if you would like to suggest the creation of one, or help develop an existing 'hood, just leave a message in the
Hellas Neighborhood Project thread, or contact one of the Hellenic scribes.
A Quick Trip Around the Greek Hoods
At current count there are 40 properties in Hellas, with The Greek Islands being the most popular region. Metics (that's what we Greeks affectionately call foreigners) Sabina Scipio and Senex Caecilius have settled among us as
residents of Thera, while in Crete, Minoans are dazzled by the acrobatic feats of
Alektryon the Bull-Leaper.
It is said that you can't throw a brick in Corinth without hitting an artisan. Ok, I made that up, but if you want to try,
the agora is the best place to do it. This is the home of weaver
Anadyomene Callias and potter
Psykhe Glaucon, both of whom promise to offer their products for sale soon.
What's happening in Attica? Cybergod Jot Ariston has left Mount Olympos to settle in the
deme of Alopeke, and Acharnai houses the brand new
temple of Athena built by Helia Lupus. Bring your prayers,
your gifts for the goddess, or just yourself to view the beautiful altar and say
kalimera.
Hellas Goldfest 2006
Golden Greece is Hellas' theme for the site-wide festival this fall (October 20-28). We want to highlight all things made of gold in our regions, real or mythological. Some of the events currently being planned are:
- Find the Artifact - Images of Greek artifacts will be hidden within a photo. Players will have to find them and tell us what they are.
- Word Jumble - Just like the one you see in the newspaper, with words related to ancient Greece and our Goldfest theme.
- A Hellas-themed limerick thread
- A hood tour/scavenger hunt
- A special exhibition hosted by the Delos Museion
If you are interested in helping with any of these activities or want to contribute something of your own, please leave a note on the
Hellas Festival Planner thread.

Ancient Volcano Eruption Bigger Than Thought
3500 years ago, near the ancient town of Akrotiri, a volcano erupted, burying the town, a la Pompeii. Recent research in the area suggests that this blast had a major impact on Minoan civilization. [

Temple to Ares Uncovered in Metropolis
While rare on the Anatolian peninsula, the second temple to Ares, the god of war in ancient Hellas, has been discovered in the small, ancient city of Metropolis. Since it is so unusual that such a small city has Ares for patronizing god, it is thought that he was thought of as a protector of the city instead of as a leader of its citizens to war. [
