Avatars, where are they hiding?
by Bacchus Isocrates
How many times have you searched, knowing many AW members have created avatars, and you just can't find them? I've been there! I'm sure many of you have, too. That's why I created Avatar Alley. A place where avatar artists come together and pool their talents into one location, making it easier for members to find that special avatar they've been looking for. Avatar Alley is open for anyone to join, and we give dedicated boards to anyone that posts their avatars. If you've been making avatars, and aren't a member yet, We Want You! Join Avatar Alley.

Site Help: Neighborhoods & Groups

Ok, You Bought a Property. Now What?

After the opening of the neighborhoods, some of you may be cruising the Web looking for resources to build your new homes. If you're not sure where to go or are finding it tough to locate images with an "ancient" flair, here are some threads and group boards that contain a selection of avatars, graphics, names, and more to help you set up your hood homes.

AW Group Search Tool

At current count, AW offers no fewer than 257 groups that focus on all kinds of topics: history, archaeology, hobbies, technology. Groups are further divided into three categories (academic, historical RR and roleplay), which can make finding a specific board by browsing a bit time consuming. With this in mind, Phenom Leonidas has written a javascript program that searches and sorts AW groups: the AW Group Search Tool. Its features are simple to use and allow you to search groups by city, type, and topic (keywords). Give it a try and see what results you get.

If your group isn't listed, you can add it to the database and help maintain the search tool up-to-date. For more information and news about this project, visit the Beginner's Guide thread.

Did You Know...

  • The word "tragedy" originally comes from the Greek tragos (goat) and oide (song) put together as tragoidia, meaning "a song somehow connected with goats". Why? We're not sure... [more]
  • The Roman board game of tabula is believed to be the ancestor of the modern game of backgammon, and indeed shares with it many similarities in set-up and strategy. Originally, tabula was a gambling game. It was called alea (gambling), but came to be known as tabu (table) because it was played on one. It is said that the Emperor Claudius was so fond of playing tabula that he had a board built into his imperial carriage so he could play while traveling. [more]
