Groups in the Spotlight

Velvet Glove
From the ever-inventive mind of Joseph Niafer comes the newest addition to the Americas's group line-up: The Velvet Glove. Named for a downtown Chicago night club with mob connections, the group seeks to recreate the tumultuous Roaring Twenties when alcohol was illegal and easy to come by, organized crime became American celebrity, and life was "live it while you can."

AW Citizen in the Spotlight

Akatena
Akatena Sequoyah is a relatively new member of the Americas, though she has been around AW for some time in other worlds. Active in the Turtle Nations group, she has a lively interest in the native peoples of North America, especially those in the eastern US. Akatena joins us for most of our festivals in the Americas and during the latest Springfest even managed to build a pyramid in Egypt!

Featured Neighborhood

Tulum
And it was here, on the Yucatan, during the Late Classic/Early Post-Classic Maya Period, that the walled city of Tulum, then called "Zama", rose in blood-hued majesty, above the temperate turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.Check out the district and it's new boards and thread, built gorgeously by Zama Roca.

ACTA DIURNA issue 6The Americas World News
News in Americas:

AmericasDing2.gif
Yes, it's me, Topiltzin, acting as your Americas World News editor for this issue. And despite Sank calling us AVBians as upstarts [in May's ACTA], I'm more than happy to write too.
Actually, that is how the audionews starts, by writing, writing and rewriting, and only after it's "perfect" (never is tho, LOL), does the recording and sound editing part of it start. (and that is not really fast work, either). And like my style is, usually finished just before deadline. *G* And so will this ACTA report be too, so if I overlook something or some parts of it, please do forgive me? (if I have time, I might do an audio version of this for the Voice of Americas, too).

Inti Raymi 2006!
inti rami

The summer soltice festival of the Incas, Inti Raymi 2006, was celebrated on the 24th of June, and even with the slow business at AW during the summer, people found the festival, and had fun celebrating it. The festival was planned a bit extempore, with the people already having vacation fever, but still, we were able to arrange a sheep scavenger hunt, a quiz on sun gods of the world, Mangas was serving drinks and food at the Blue Macaw and Apo Mayta wrote great articles about the festival (featured in this month's ACTA). Sadly, after that his computer crashed, and he couldn't take part during the festival. The Great Sheep Search was won by a Roman lady, elena Curius, with 55 sheep found of the over 70 sheep hidden all over Americas. All in all, the event was a success, considering the scheduled time and the Roman I Claudius celebrations happening at the same time; so we might be continuing it as a annual event.

Member news:

AmericasDing2.gif
New members keep pouring in: since last ACTA about 65 new inhabitants have joined, and some, like Singing Cedars MorningStar, have already made it up to the citizen rank... we just have to hope that Jot fixes the current Cash Box Bug (that appeared after the latest server crash about a month ago), so that even more new members can collect their daily pay and make it up to a AW citizen level.
Also, the Welcome to America-thread's look has been updated by Apo Mayta, and even more changes have been planned for the boards of Americas, mostly moving them to appropriate 'hoods. More about the changes when they are ready to be made.

Hood News:

AmericasDing2.gif
Zama Roca has got busy again in building the hoods, as you can see from this month's featured location, the district of Tulum. The Rocas are already dancing lambada along the boards and streets of Tulum. And Zama has even requested more districts (like Mayapán) to be made, so that Americas' people could move to their desired 'hoods... maybe even my desired Toltec capital of Tula?
