In 280 BC, the king of Bythnia hired 20,000 Celtic mercenaries to fight his battles. Later, those same Celts ravaged the lands and terrorized the natives. They were "pacified" with help from Rome, and eventually were absorbed into the native population. It was these people that St. Paul was addressing in his Epistle to the Galatians (Bible: Gal 1 & 2)
This location was the chief city of the one of three Celtic tribes that migrated from the Danube Valley to this region in the third centruy BC. It was an important trading post at the intersection of roads leading to all parts of Asia Minor. Today the site is inhabited during the winter by nomadic Turkish tribes. There are remains here of an ancient temple with inscriptions to a god that are mostly in Byzantine.
