Ravenna Yule Events
Contributed by Aelfwine Scylding
The Middangeard neighborhood of
Ravenna hosted part of this year's Yule celebrations, in
the spirit of a closer collaboration between Germanics and Romans. We had
the inauguration of Senex Caecilius'
Roman
Poetry Quiz at the
Thermae, a poetry pageant at the
Palace and a little celebration at the
Circus. Also, we unveiled the
Virtual Ravenna Demonstration by King Theodoric Ostrogoth, a really stunning
work-in-progress that will be continuously enlarged. So remember to check
back often and leave us your comments!

Contributed by Norvegicus Lupus
The Shetland News has the article Viking project gets cash break on the Unst Viking project to excavate a number of Viking longhouses on Britain's most northerly island Unst, to reconstruct one of the island's farm houses with an interpretation centre and to display the 26 metre replica longship Skibladner will also be display.Unst has the greatest density of surviving of Viking farms anywhere, and perhaps an excavation will take place at a preferred site of Hamar this summer.
According to the article the Skibladner stranded in Shetland in 2000 after a mainly Swedish crew failed in their attempt to emulate their ancestor Leiv Eiriksson and sail from Scandinavia to America without a back-up engine or any facilities to accommodate the eight crew.
