AW Citizen in the Spotlight

Fedelm
Fedelm Cruithni is one of Celtia's two new scribes. The character of Fedelm is a druid based on Fedelm, the poetess and prophetess of Táin Bó Cuailnge fame. In addition to role play at Ancient Worlds, Fedelm's many interests include reading, hiking, Irish dancing, writing, research, ancient mythology, history and culture, early medieval literature, web design and Chinese brush painting.

Featured Neighborhood

pictland
Pictland - Picts, Wildmen, Blue People... Call them what you will. They were some of the fiercest fighters the "civilized' world ever encountered. Described as "dark-haired and dark-eyed" these people were of the old Celtic stock. Where did these "Barbarians of the North" come from? It is difficult to trace their ancestry, but most think they came out of Scythia and passed across northern Europe, until they found a home in the Highlands.

Scribes

Celtia would like to thank our Scriba Emeritus Flidais Niafer and Amlaidh Niafer for their time and devotion to Celtia as two of its scribes. Flidais and Amlaidh did excellent jobs and helped build Celtai into the fine world it is today.

Celtia would also like to welcome its two newest scribes, Katlyne MacRoth and Fedelm Cruithni. Be sure to lift a glass and toast these two ladies and the wonderful job we all know they'll do!

Samhain

Celtia's Samhain 2005 was celebrated with six events. Samhain is not Samhain without the traditional Samhain Bonfire. The wall between this world and the spirit world opens, allowing the living to mingle with loved ones who've passed on. The mood around the bonfire is always both poignant and merry. In addition to the lighting of the Samhain bonfire, and going hand in hand with welcoming spirits back to this world, was the Fleadh nan Mairbh. This is a feast in which places are set for both the living and the dead and where stories are told to bring the spirits up to date on what's been happening in the world.

A fun Samhain Puzzle was put together by Egyptian friend Amenhotep Asenath. Participants were challenged to answer thirteen questions and from those answers reveal a word related to Samhain. Another great and fun event was Barm Brack Divination. Participants chose a piece of Barm Brack, also known as speckled bread, each with a trinket baked into it. Each trinket symbolizes something in the future and each has its own signficance.

Offering up a real challenge was the Warrior’s Spooky Triple Challenge. This excellent event was put together by Scathach Cruithni, Amlaidh Niafer, and Fenian Niafer. The seven warriors who made it through the challenge were each awarded a shield, a feather, and spear.

A rousing good time was had by many at the Samhain Pub Crawl. Participants sang songs and told stories and poems in return for food and drink. Participating locations were Celtia's The Stag and The Hound, Egypt's Alexandria After Dark, Celtia's An Caidreamh Suiri, Celtia's The Old Broch by the Sea, Germania's Widsith's Meodoheall, Celtia's Magh Croimor, the America's The Inn Of the Blue Macaw, and lastly, The Mull of Cean Tir, and An Cailleach na Muir (The Sea Hag Inn), both in Celtia. Pub crawl participants who've not yet picked up their plaques may find the link at this post.

Thanks go to everyone who put Samhain together this year and to all who participated. WELL DONE!

Samhain Soundbites

Fedelm Cruithni: I'd like to put in a good word for the Samhain feis events that were most successful: MacMorna's Barm Brack Divination, the Literary Pub Crawl, the Spooky Samhain Triple Challenge and the Bonfire were all popular and well-attended.
Anarane Burgundian: I participated in the Triple Warriors Challenge and actually got through it! I am so proud! It was very well-written and fun, even for a non-RP'er like me. And I always like the Bon fire and remembering my dad during samhain. Thanks for a great festival.
Aelfwine Scylding:I have been very proud this Samhain to take part in my first Literary Pub Crawl and even host a part of it. Yggdrasil's Widsith's Meodoheall had a good attendance. We catered to a large bunch of Celts and visitors from all Worlds and hopefully they got away happy! And of course, we all were entertained by beautiful songs and poems and humour. It was a Samhain to remember.
Lotus Horemheb: The Pub Crawl - I did it and loved every minute of it!
Valeria Morna: The Barm Brack was brilliant and, as an aficionada of the Triple Challenge, I thought this time it was really special! I did not massacre anyone (well, apart for the giantess) and I was delighted to see the whole group of warriors work together to solve the problem. And I got a brand-new shield and spear and a heron feather, how can it get any better?
AzureEyes Ramesses: Egypt's perpetual partiers proudly popped into Celtia's Pub Crawl, decorating Alexandria After Dark according to their chosen theme, "Par-O-dy" and providing your typical mement-O's. Those who have yet to retrieve their tokens can pick them up right here. Quite a few Egyptians and "O" patrons posted throughout the Crawl, visiting far off taverns in Celtia, Pictland, Germania, and the Americas, too. Favorite pastimes included the Barm Brack, and Ask Cat For A Wish [in the Americas]. And even though I was kidnapped by Vulcan aliens somewhere along the route, I made it home on time to report that a rousing good time was had by all. WTG Celtia. We loved it!
Mangas Cochise: I had a great time meandering around the world drinking with everyone, and honoring the Samhain fires, and reading my fortune in the Barm Brack. We in Americas enjoyed hosting the Pub Crawl at the Inn of the Blue Macaw, too. You Celts rock!

We the People
Has the current state of affairs got you down? Wish you could pack up and start your own civilization? If you answered "Yes!" Then I've got great news!

We the People is a group of people (pre-industrial era) who flee their country to start life anew upon a group of four northern islands, rich in resources, but far from any other known countries. Here, they will work together, form a government and create a nation for themselves. Laws will develop and change, land disputes will arise, and in the end, they may not be just one nation at all any more. Come and help us kick off the start of a new civilization! Come and join us!

This issue's featured group, We the People has the above great ad for the group. If you have an ad to place for any reason, please contact me, Bronwyn Cumhaill.
