This family name is taken from the Sumerian King’s List. According to the list, ApilSin was a ruler in the first Dynasty of Babylon (about 2040 BC). He was the fourth king of this Dynasty and ruled for 18 years.

The name is a tribute to this man’s patron god. The word “Apil“, in Mesopotamian, translates to mean “heir of”. Sin is the name of the Sumerian Moon god. So, the name means, “Heir of Sin”.
