Acta Diurna, Issue 8 (concept)
by Tanaquil Sergius ![]() ![]() Roman Editorial Board: Tanaquil Sergius, editor Calpurnia Caesar, assistant editor Quid Novi? What's New in Rome Imagine strolling the ancient streets of Rome, gazing at the wonders of the Forum Romanum and the Fora of the emperors, all the theaters, aquaeducts, gardens, circuses and all the other marvels of the center of ancient western civilization.....That's Rome during the summer holidays and that's what you're gazing at in the virtual world right now! While the summer holdidays are nearing their end, the Romans of AW are already preparing for the Fall coming up at AncientWorlds...And this will hold lots of fun in store for you. We will keep you informed... Some of the Newest of Groups in the Roman World This group is a roleplay which takes place in the modern times. Here we solve crimes and have court cases. As you can see we are currently very busy, but please have a seat in the waiting room. We’ll come to you as soon as possible. Mathematics From The Beginning: Math is such a big topic. Full of wonders. Related to almost everything. Here we'll find the key to tons of hard, puzzling, mind-boggling puzzles and problems. How math started out, and who or what came up with the idea of math and the sub-ideas in it. We'll get to know the mathmatical language and what it makes so different from our daily languages. ![]() News from the Roman Groups For those who haven't noticed it yet: the group has a new image and its old name back again: "crapula mundi"! Taking part of Celtia's Lughnasa Pub Crawl, and as a tryout to revive the group, they held their First Centennial Thirst Raid on July 31st. To celebrate the event with hot steam and cold drinks, they held THE AQUA FENNICA SAUNA CHALLENGE at the Pub Pataässä at the Roman Slave Market-thread. Five contestants signed up, tho only two were brave enough to actually venture into the several stages of the increasingly hot sauna, namely MacMorna Niafer and Apiladey ApilSin. Of these two, MAcMorna with his clever posts (check out the text color referenced to increased heat) was awarded the Bravest's Hardhat and 200 sestertii. Luckily for the contestants, Aqua Fennica's Fire Chief Cornellia Cornellius was present to take appropriate action, in case the sauna had suddenly burst to flames - common practise in Finland - or for serious skin burns etc. Just a buzz with the chainsaw... *G* ![]() The summer holidays are over: school will start again on September 8th, 2005 CE! For those who are taking the course: start collecting and taking the dust off your books! Currently, the "holiday crew" is translating Martialis' epigrams... Imperium is the longest running role-playing group at Ancientworlds. The original game started back in January 1998 at AncientSites, with five founding players: Maritus Furius, Victorius Marius, Caius Livius, Drakus Domitius and Diocletian Valerius. It has, through various moves: to ancientvine when AS closed, to Community Zero when AV folded and back to its current and spiritual home, AW; always ploughed on when other groups, almost all of which were founded to mimic Imperium and its famed rules based play, failed. Imperium's Rome is healthier than ever, with challenge enough for any man (or woman!) Currently, Rome finds itself having to defend its fledgling Empire, following its last decade's success in the Macedonian and Seleucid wars, with a civil war in Greece raising the spectre of a resurgent Macedon and a large Gallic revolt in Gallia Cisalpina about to cause the death of one of the consuls and the threatening the security of Rome's northern frontier as well as periodical uprisings in controlled and allied territories. Add to this intrigue, murder, love triangles, grudges, gladiatorial games, races, revolts, riots and a Britannic pub (of all things!) causing waves in Rome's gastronomic scene and you have a recipe for entertainment which we can guarantee is quite unique and unlike any other role-playing game of its genre. Imperium, you get out of it what you put into it. ![]() Things are heating up here! Check out the current drama: Porcia Catonis is captured by pirates and taken to Rhodes. Several Roman fleets set out to save her. That of Pompeius Magnus succeeds but on the way back to Antioch Magnus's fleet is hit by a storm. Porcia survived but Pompeius is in a coma. Upon hearing of the accident and thinking his daughter and Pompey are dead, Cato kills himself, leaving his forces at the disposal of Sextus Pompeius..
