AW Citizen in the Spotlight

Nyfain
Nyfain Cumhaill joined AW and took it by storm, quickly becoming addicted to our fabulous Ancient Worlds and making too many new friends to count them all. Then, for personal reasons, Nyfain was gone for an extensive period. Nyfain was finally able to return and we are very glad to welcome back our good, dear friend back to AW!

Featured Neighborhood

Din Eidyn
Din Eidyn was a large hill fort situated atop a volcanic core, overlooking the area which is now Edinburgh. This 832 foot outcrop is the center of today's Holyrood Park. On the lower lava flows to the west, known as the Salisbury Crags, there were a number of small farms. It is likely that there was a second large hill fort further west, on the hill where Edinburgh Castle now sits.

Lughnasadh in Celtia

Lughnasadh 2005
August in Celtia is marked by the grand celebration of Lughnasadh, the harvest festival. This year's Lughnasadh was hosted by Cean Tir, a neighborhood in Celtia's Pictland.

Traditionally, Lughnasadh, named for the god Lugh, is observed on August 1st. The word Lughnasadh generally denotes the Irish celebration. In Scotland it's Lunasdál, in Wales Gwl Awst (meaning August Feast), and on the Isle of Mann it's known as Laa Luanys. For more about the festival and its origins, read the featured article by Flidais Niafer.

For the Lughnasadh festivities, Fenian Niafer wrote the following:

Lugh Lormansclech is a living mythical stereotype. He's an obsessive-compulsive hero. Wherever he goes, he's constantly alert for trouble. Since he was a wee lad, he's been practicing every skill so that he can fight the good fight for whatever is right. In his youth, he was always climbing trees to rescue trapped kittens. When he got a little older, he switched from saving kittens to aiding damsels in distress. There is many a bully boy who got the snot beat out of him by Lugh's righteous fists. Nothing was too big or small for Lugh to save...

Competitions of the Festival

Lughnasadh was also the scene of two other competitions. The Great Cean Tir Horse Race was won by the team of Moss Niall and bisclavret Venetii. The The Stag And The Hound hosted the Lughnasadh Cook off. Hilarity Hatshepsut, Senenmut Hatshepsut, Ancksunamun Meritamen, and Isia Khafre made up the team Kemet Kooks which cooked up a first place win.
