Image Questions

1) Q: What type of images can I upload?

GIFs, JPEGs or PNGs.
*Currently jpeg's (.jpg) should not be used for group plaques, room perspectives other than the entrance, award plaques if event is held in AW contest system or avatars. Using JPEG's in these areas will cause them to appear greyed out in homesites and posts.. wherever AW code resizes them as thumbnails. To avoid this, upload only GIF's or PING's. If you do not have a graphics program to convert the image to a .gif or .png post a request for the image to be converted in our global Helpcenter thread.

2) Q: Is there a file or size limit on images?

Yes, aside from your gallery size limits which differ according to your citizen/patron status, AW image galleries will not upload an image larger than 100K in size.
You can reduce the size of your images by optimizing them.

3) Q: How do I add images into the Perspective space?

  • Click on the "edit image" link that appears under the default perspective.
  • Click on "Browse".
  • Navigate your way through your folders until you find your picture.
  • Double click on it, or click on "Open".
  • Click on "Submit Query".
  • Click on "Add this Image to the Item".

4) Q: How do I delete an image?

  • Click on the "Image Gallery" link at your home.
  • Find the image and click on "Delete".
  • You'll be asked if you really want to delete the page. Click on "Delete" again.

5) Q: How do I reference added images in posts?

  • Go to your Image Gallery.
  • Find the image you want to post and copy the code that appears under it (for example, image 37638 ).
  • Paste the code into your BB post.

6) Q: How can I delete a referenced image?

If you open your image library, browse the list until you find the graphic that is referenced, and click on the image (or the name or the word References), the "How to use this image" page opens. This is the page that details information about the image, including the reference number it was given when you uploaded it and its size and width, and how many "units you have in stock" etc. At the bottom of the table on the right side you should see a cell labelled "Image Circulation". This will tell you that the image is referenced and should give you links to all the places your system thinks the image is referenced. If you find the image on any of those pages, you might try removing it and see if that helps.

7) Q: Can I use regular HTML to reference images in AW?

Of course! The choice is yours. You can use the default AW style (image 12345) but often many of us use HTML as it allows much more control in positioning. The default AW style does not let you center an image for instance or float it next to a paragraph so text wraps around it. However, you have to capitalize part of the code to prevent AW from converting it back to the default AW style.

Here is an example of regular HTML that won't convert back:
