SpringFest in the Orient

On April 30th, 2005 Springfest arrives in The Orient. Start and end your day by visiting The Teahouse of the April Moon. Here, you can relax, pick up your own teapot and decorate it in any style you like. Share it with others...this isn't a competition. There are no judges, no awards, it's just for fun and maybe your teapot will be a conversation starter. You could even spend your whole day here if you like. If anything of interest occurs, we'll be posting announcements for teahouse patrons, so you don't have to worry about missing a moment.

After two frantic weeks in February, celebrating everything from Setsubun to Vasant Panchimi, we decided to take it a little easy this time around. Most of the events we have planned are going to be slow and easy...not all, though. For those brave souls who just live for adventure, our sherpas are offering an expedition to Climb Mount Everest. If you're a trivia buff and have no fear of heights, cold, or yaks ... and can understand the rules—no easy feat; I've read them!... join us at 12:00 AWT and see if you can summit the mountain. But be forewarned...Everest has claimed her share of lives over the years.

If you're in more of a literary mood, we're hosting another writing event, Memoirs of the Great Wall. As archaeologists uncover a section of the Great Wall of China, the artifacts they find bring to mind tales from the wall's ancient beginnings...and YOU bring the stories to life! A selection of objects & artifacts to associate your story to will be available shortly, the charactors participants choose to create are left completely to your own imagination. This event begins on our SF date, but will be ongoing through spring.

Enjoy searching for lost treasures? How about cute but aggravating Pandas? We thought so! The Orient's mascot, Bao Bei, is on the loose again and our Annual Super Sleuth Award will be handed out during our festivities. It's not too late to start hunting, er, searching now to rack up points to win a shiny new award!

If tea, writing and panda petting is too relaxing for you, but climbing mountains isn't on your list of "things to do before I die", perhaps you would enjoy one of our Festival Quizzes. Or take a look at some of the work of our Articlewriters of the Orient will be posting throughout the day for your enjoyment. All in all, just sit on the floor with us and enjoy a relaxing spring day!
