DELIAN ~ DREAMS

'They lie in the heart of the Agean Sea. They form a bridge accross the water between Greece and Asia Minor. Merchants from Egypt and the Near East were attracted to the obsidian of Melos, the marbles of Paros, Tinos, and Syros and the copper from Siphnos. They exchanged food to make up for the archipelago's meager agricultural products.

The most flourishing period was between 2200 and 1700 BC. After that the islands became assimilated with the orbit of Crete. In the Golden Age of the Cyclades important settlements developed, and these inhabitants enjoyed great prosperity.'

The Sacred Island of Delos is the hub and center and heart of it all. Athens grew rich because of the wealth in trade that Delos attracted. Here from the earliest time traders and navigators of the seas found sanctuary. The 'Delia' was a festival to honor the god Apollo on his return to the island in the spring time of the year.

Delos became famous as the birthplace of Apollo (the sun) and his sister Artemis (the moon). To this very day pilgrims still flock to visit Delos even though no one has either been born or died here in thousands of years.

More people now reside on our cyber version of the island ~DELIAN~DREAMS~ than have lived here in a mellinium. Here you can visit or become a resident. You can acquire property, open a business, or visit the ancient shrines and temples. This is not a fantasy island, it is a very real place and played a very important role in the history of Hellas.

Here you will find the Delian League. There is an on-going symposium. Soon the theater and stadium will be holding events.

The Delia will begin on April 15th when we set sail in a reggata of sailing ships from the port of Piraeus. It will last until May 15th when we celebrate the birthday of the god Apollo. Ancient Delos lives again on Ancient Worlds as we experience life there from the dark ages to modern times. Pack your bags and get ready. The Greek experience awaits you.

XAIPE!

Enjoy!
