Langobarden ("Longbeards" older, self given name Viniler)

This northgerman tribe settled in "Hermonia", on the banks of the river [Elbe]. They referred themself as from the island of scandinavia coming.

?Publius? Cornelius Tacitus describes the Langobards in his book Germania (Latin title: De Origine et situ Germanorum) as part of the Sueben. He admits even though they are very small in numbers, they accomplish to get along with the other mighty german tribes.

Next time the langobards are mentioned around 166 A.D. The Langobards and about thousand Ubier were defeated by Romans, when they tried to raid Pannonia.

Their settlement were located in the Altmark until they left again. Between the 3rd and 4th century most of them moved on. Some followed the river south and some went towards Limes and mingled with the Bajuvaren and Alamannen.
