HEAT IN THE ANCIENT WORLDS
THE PAPER LOOKS BETTER, DOESN'T IT?
by Maximius Flavius
Most online communities become quite empty and silent when the summer with its vacations and heat hits us online frequents. Based on what I have heard, this summer has been extremely hot even outside Finland. Still, everyone seems to agree on this: AncientWorlds, its cities and groups, are far more lively and active than one would ever expect in the middle of July. What I think this proves is that the site development has reached many of its goals: AncientWorlds caters to people of many tastes and interests, and with its wonderful citizens, great variety of boards, and good looks, attracts a lot of people from all over the world. Also this newspaper with its variety of articles testifies to this!
One could also expect that the midsummer issue of Acta Diurna would be dead boring with hasty articles written while trying to get a tan, or city news reports with not much to tell. Wrong. We will prove otherwise! Again, the splendid writers have managed to supply a wonderful variety of city and group news reports, history and archaeology articles, and even a wine column! Also our layout and graphical outlook has been improved by new graphics. Diantha Livius has added two more section logos, and Hapshetsut Nebet has supplied the Acta Diurna with city banners and the hieroglyphs - smaller Egyptian and larger Mayan ones - appearing on these pages.
Another addition is a conclusive "Lead Page." On this page, captions of all the articles of an issue will now appear so that the reader is able to choose the ones of her or his liking by one glance. As the Section pages will also appear in the "good old way," the reader will be given more options to approaching our monthly issues.
As a reminder your humble editor wants to repeat that all kinds of reports from groups, boards, and cities as well as articles on history and columns on almost any subject matter are very welcome to the newspaper. The newspaper gives a great opportunity to draw attention to your city events or group boards, as well as your personal posts, if you write an interesting history or featured article. Also ideas on developing the layout are always needed. Our next deadline is, according to our convention, August 13th, and the August issue should be out on the 15th. Once and again, from all my heart, I thank you reporters and contributors, as well as you readers, who make working for hours and hours on the layout and the HTML of these pages worthwhile!
