First page of a short story i'm working on

“He has gone now, that ageless wanderer of time and loneliness. He has gone now, that beauty of a dying and forgotten age that would enthral the modern world for all the millennia that followed its loss. Alas that I could not grant his most desired wish, though it seared my very heart to admit it for I loved him above all other things on this earth. I could not, and would not cross over to the lonely path he so lovingly offered me with all his tortured and pained soul. And I could not free him of his torment and suffering. With my heart and soul I refused to relinquish the joys of beholding the break of dawn with her rose coloured embrace to traverse the endless night wreathed in the pale light of a waning moon. It seems so very, very long ago now that he came across me in my solitude in the cool Babylonian night when in fact it was a matter of a mere few small nights. Everlasting shall be the swiftly running water of the Euphrates and everlasting shall be my memories of him. A confused and tortured creature he was, with no memory of who he was or where he came from, driven by an eternal lust for love, companionship and blood. The beauty of his face was darkened by his madness and his cobalt blue eyes were dulled from the suffering his immortal and trapped soul felt. For just one moment I held fast the powerful spell I sought to wreath about him, and when the morning sun embraced the purple skies with her golden arms; I saw for one precious moment, the blessed soul who would have devoted his love and passion to me. In that one instant I knew my mysterious lover for who he had once been and for who he wished to be again. I believe that my very tears of sorrow mingled with those silvered tears of his own when the blinding sun’s rays took him from me and the desert winds scattered him to the silent and endless dunes.”

“I have a very strange tale to tell you and my heart weeps for my loss and for my failure to grant my mysterious lover’s greatest and only wish. If only my powers had been as great as he so misguidedly thought. If only that I could have returned my ageless companion to the realms of mortal men. If only that I could have not fallen so deeply in love with a soul that could never really be mine for I would not turn my back on the sun’s warming rays, to give myself to the endless night. I am Cyrus, named after a mighty king. I am magician, weaver of dreams, and eternally broken of soul now that my beloved wanderer has forever been taken from me. Listen to my tale and hear my heartfelt song for my tortured heart must now recount what has transpired these last few nights. I need for you to hear my story lest that I one day forget, and so forget what it is to love and to be loved in return.”
With unyielding love,

Cyrus
