Egypt Spring Festival planning - Festival of Heru
Mid April (12-14th) will be Egypt's Spring Festival: The Festival of Heru. We welcome people who would like to help out in any way, great or small. Feel welcome to post here, and discuss ideas, plans, and other considerations. by: Onions Hatshepsut
Need a hand?
I'd like to help *s* What is the Festival of Heru?
Yes, Hatshepsut!
Definitely, your help is well appreciated! *Bowing with thanks* I should, by late tonight, post some information about the Festival of Heru here. ~ Onions Hatshepsut
Info on the Festival of Heru
The Festival of Heru celebrates the defeat of Set by Horus, who cuts the former into pieces, in the aftermath of Set's dismemberment of Wesir (Osiris). One notable event in the ancient festival is that a figure of a red hippopotmus (symbolizing Set) would be cut into pieces at the temple of Edfu (dedicated to Heru). Some info may be gleaned here: http://www.philae.nu/akhet/NetjeruH.html#Horus (Horus)

Yes, I'll help !
I would like to help in the festival. Just let me know what would you like me to do. ~ Senenmut Hatshepsut
Always willing to lend a hand...
You can count on me when you need me! This is going to be fun! :-) ~ Feline Thutmose
Thank you!
Thanks, Feline, and thanks, Senenmut! At the moment the main help is going to be for the planning stages of the events that will occur that weekend. Then, we can focus on actively bringing the Festival together. We have three days to work with, so while I personally would like to see something on the order of a re-creation of the Temple of Edfu ceremony, we'll also have more time to fill, so further ideas are heartily welcomed. ~ Onions Hatshepsut
The Ten Harpoons (Triumph of Horus)
I remember this subject being one of our Trivia Questions. http://www.ancientworlds.net/aw/BoardMessage/59041 http://www.ancientworlds.net/aw/BoardMessage/59052 A perfect ceremony for our Springfest! ~ AzureEyes Ramesses

I Too...
Am willing to contribute to the festival. Just let me know where I can fit in. Are any other dieties worshipped or highlighted at the festival? ~ nilaja Amenhotep
Count me in...
....I'd be glad to help. Anything you might need me for. :) This will turn out wonderfully! ~ Tryphaena Hatshepsut
and me three!!
Would be glad to help in anyway I can.....
Asenath, Tryphaena, nijala!
Adding you to the strong list of appreciation! Thanks! I'm getting a whole list of ideas together which will be posted Tues and/or Weds here (they won't necessarily be definitive, so if anyone has ideas above and beyond (or just around), go ahead and post 'em, or suggest 'em, too... During the festival we'll need relevant educational info, possibly interviews with appropriate figures, games, contests, and the like. Graphics, etc., are also appropriate. People can post as they have been, in this thread, or if they prefer they can leave a note at my per, or they can write at irysnepthys@hotmail.com. Thanks so very much for volunteering; Spring Festival will be little without its active participants! ~ Onions Hatshepsut
Photos available: Horus sculptures/poss. relief carvings
Taken by friends - if the copyright sign is displayed I'm sure a number of these could be made available just for this project - just a thought *s* They are rather nice. ~ Hapshetsut Nebet
Plans... Current update
We will be having trivia contests, and other contests here. We will have Festival of Heru ceremonies, involving both education and roleplay. We'll need: graphic artists, HTML people, Egyptian historians, and people who just plain want to have fun! Minor or Major, we've gotten a fair amount of input, but more is always welcome. If you sign up to help, I'll always ask what you feel up to doing here, and when you might be available. I know novices and citizens have limited posts and grams, we can work around this if you are interested in participation. Drop me a note at my per. This is coming together, and will be a great deal of fun! ~ Onions Hatshepsut
Way cool!!!
Send me the photos at irysnepthys@hotmail.com, I'll look through them, and should we use them we'll get full approval via you, and link copyright exactly as your friends desire. Sounds great! ~ Onions Hatshepsut
Howdy!
I'm willing to help out for the spring festival, in small ways. Let me know. ~ Mesedsure Ahhotep
Excellent stuff in the works, Egypt!!
This is going to be a festival to remember, I have a hunch! ;) It is so heartwarming to see so many volunteering to help your city. Way to go Egypt! ;) ~ KismetNefertari Ramesses
Another link, and more appreciation
Djeser just sent me this link: Temple of Edfu, Ancient Egypt Magazine.
And, more appreciation for the turnout of interest for the Spring Festival at Egypt! Thanks all!
An idea
How about an offering contest? There could be a topic for people to post their offerings to Horus (images, text, music, etc.) and at the end of the festival, a group of judges or whatever could pick the best (or the "most historical," "most original" and so on). ~ Bithiah Nebet |
