Sheshonq II Mery-Amun Heqa-kheper-re Setep-en-re (894 BC). Sheshonq II's father, Osorkon I took the chief priesthood of Amun at Karnak from Osorkon's brother, Iuput, and gave it to Sheshonq II, whome he took as co-regent in 894 BC. Sheshonq was already in his 50's when he shared his father's throne and adopted the throne name of King Heqa-kheper-re Setepenre, Son of Re, Sheshonq II Beloved of Amun.
Sheshonq, however predeceased his father by a few months, and both were buried at Tanis. His skeleton found in the tombs at Tanis reveals his cause of death: an injury to the head developed into a massive infection, no evidence of healing is found and so he probably died of Septic infection. The silver coffin of Sheshonq had been opened 21 march 1939. The gold mask was laying on detached fragments of the inlay of a cartonnage (unfortunately decayed due to the humidity).
