History of Septimontium set to be published.
Created by: * Quintus Julius Caesar, subeditdate
The publication of the first chronicle of the nation is set.

The little known history of Septimontium, from its conception by Gaius Caesar before his murder and inception in his will via the adopted Octavius...all the way through to the present day, is set for publication late this year.

The Roman University Press will be publishing the short history electronically in the Julian Library.

Quintus Caesar, currently serving as Dictator, said earlier today in a press conference, "The idea came to me after my [Latin I] exam. I passed it with an A and simultaneously received a communique from the U.N. on my cell phone. They [the U.N.] were reporting the recognition of Septimontium and forcing the Italian Republic to cede the island of Alba (which we inhabit) in the south Tuscan Sea...I decided then and there to write a narrative of our nation's history to comemmorate the event."

Italy was happy to oblige the Republic, which is older than San Marino, an enclave in Italy. Rome proper recognized Septimontian superiority in Roman heritage and culture, recognizing itself as tainted by centuries of decline since the Principate.

The Italian Republic agreed to match what Gaius Caesar had granted the Republic in his will, indexed for inflation, as a gesture of goodwill. The value in American dollars is estimated to be in the 3.5 billion range.

The Republic has maintained its independence since 44 B.C.E., intermittently recognized by emperors, dukes, popes, Holy Romans and kings. With the formation of the Kingdom of Italy in the 1860s, the Republic fell out of world view for a long time, and the island was marginalized officially by the new nation. Septimontium maintained its nonincorporation, and sat waiting for legal representation in a world court that would be years in the coming.
