HIBERNICUS DEFEATS THE ETRURIANS
In a battle fought around Pistoria, Consul Patricus Curius Hibernicus has
defeated the so feared Etrurian army. That battles has shown the real military
strenght of Etrurians: a mixed army with many Roman outlaws and Gauls. Now
that Hibernicus is laying the siege around Pistoria, the question is: how many
are barricated inside the city? Legio XI centurio primus pilum Opiter Incitus
has said: “Bah! As more they are, as sooner they will surrender! Since
the supply they lost along their castra.”
It is not yet known if Etruscians have further troops at Faesulae. While no
enemy movement is reported at Arretium still controlled by rebels.
The Poetry of Pain at Pistoria?
On a related note regarding the revolt in Etruria, Consul Hibernicus is showing
that he gives no quarter to the rebels against Rome, even if they are POWs!
Torture? Well, yes, but not only conventional torture. In order to extract
confessions with that extra special bit of suffering, Hibernicus has ordered
his interrogators to read ‘The Complete Works of Cuchullain’ to
the prisoners who may have useful information as to the current positions and
numbers of the remaining rebels.
Cuchullain, the one time charioteer turned extremely bad poet, was the author
of such travesties as ‘The Landscape of My Tortured Colon,’ ‘My
Toenail Clippings are like the Falling Snow,’ ‘The Long Day’s
Journey into Last Tuesday,’ and ‘I’ve got a Woolie Jumper
and a Dream!’. This so-called ‘poetry’ is, in fact, the only
writing in Roman History that has a body count, mainly from suicide. Indeed,
such horrid poetry led to Cuchullain’s tragic death at the hands of an
audience member at a reading who was looking unsuccessfully for a refund!
Originally, interrogators were told to put cotton in their ears to prevent
hearing the horrid poetry, but
it was then found that they wouldn’t be able to hear any confessions
while doing so. Hibernicus has therefore generously promised the team of
interrogators 12 D each for any pain or suffering that may be incurred during
readings. The method has been proved somewhat effective, but results so far
have yet to be determined. However, the blood-curdling screams of the POWs,
ranging from ‘Damn you, Hibernicus! DAMN YOU!’ to ‘Please,
merciful Gods, KILL ME NOW AND DELIVER ME FROM HEARING THIS MONSTROSITY!’,
are so loud that they may serve to demoralise the enemy forces within the city
of Pistoriae! We shall see.
When asked about his methods, Hibernicus said ‘Inhumane? Well, yeah,
but these guys are enslaving our fellow citizens! They’ve got it coming,
the bastards! I can only say I feel bad for the interrogators. We tried to
get Cato the Elder to come up and do the reading and interrogating himself,
as he has no idea of what either good or bad poetry is, so he’d remain
unaffected. But all I got from him was a response of “Go #@%@ yourself,
Greek Boy!” Geez! Toucheeey!’.
How many Cisalpina tribes are involved in Etruria?
Basing on firsts reports from Pistoria, Cisalpina Gauls warriors has been caught
during the battle, showing they are directly involved in the Etruria rebellion.
Praetor Gavius Pompilius Agelastus is investigating to clear if the Cisalpina
tribes supported the rebellion or if only groups of young daredevils joined
the Etrusci.
Zionists defeated at Rhinocolura
Comamnder Cnaus Ulpius Sisenna has suprised a large Zionist army north from
Rhinocolura annhilating it in battle.
The whole Roma is proud for the bravery her sons shown achieving a total victory
despite the numerical advantage of the enemy.
In Subura, groups of kids are creating some minor disorder playing ‘Roma
settles the Zioninst”.
Plague hits Aegyptus
Maybe due to the recent rebellion and the prolongued sieges, plague is spreading
in Aegyptus starting from the city of Alexandria. It is hoped the plague will
ends sooner now that the rebellion is settled.
Maximus conquers Bergidum
By a resolute assault, praetor Quintus Fabius Maximus has conquerred the Gallaecian
city of Bergidum. The berbarians seem withdrawn from the valley and reports
are indicating they fortified the village of Uttarae.
Bad news, instead, from Segisama that is burning once recaputerd by a Gallaecian
detachment. Fear is spreading in whole Tarraconensis region that is now exposed
to Gallaecian raids.
Rebelling slaves stopped at Scallabis
Decimus Claudius Russus wuth Legio I Baetica has intercepted and butchered
the slaves razed Olisipo and Scallabis. Only a very small group of slaves escaped
from the massacre and legionaries are hunting they.
8.3.2 - 50% of revenue from estates and factories in Scallabis for Aprilis
DLXII.
Strange calm in Numidia
After the recent raids, nothing moreis reported from Cirta. But Numidian court
is very worried about the presence of the enemy so close to the capital. It
is told that Numidian nobility is putting pressure on Marcus Claudisu Asiaticus
to move at least a cavlry deatchment to protect the south.
Is a new war with Macedonia in sight?
From
Naupactos is reported of a strange ‘bordering stones war’.
Many in Roma are fearing a new war with Macedonia is to start. But there’s
also who is saying that Philippus is too aged to want a new war. Will those ‘rolling
bordering stones’ stop somewhere?
Where are going the moving Germans?
Plague is not reported from Narbonensis, it seems the gods are pleased for
Praetor Cornelius supplicationem.
From Aquitania are contradictory rumours. Some tells the Germans are settling
there, other report about clashes with Gauls, and some the Germans are further
moving... where in unknown.
City News
Maybe for the victories Roman people is achieving worldwide, maybe for a cohincidence but, despite the unbalanced expendures of this month, no rebellion has occurred in Roma.
In Civil Court all is raedy for the trial. While Longinus has already presented himself as orator for Caius Vaecilisu Sarcio, it seems another Tribunus Plebis accepted to defend Decimus Tuberus. The more informed gossipers are telling that Tribunus is Postumius and there is bad blood between him an Longinus.
Tribuni Plebis seem to be seeing at the case of the Censores who are not investigating about the report Consul Flaccus submitted at the beginning of the year. Tribunus Potitus has said: “That fish smells rotten!”
Traffic jams are creating troubles on Caelius hill. Several residents are complaining for those stones that are hintering the regular passage of goodies.
Once the rebellion has been settled in Alexandria, the usual grain cargo from Aegyptus is expected to arrive at Ostia for the next Nundinae.
Based on the statement of an anonymous scribe from Consul Flaccus’ office,
the news of devastated Segisama got the Consul into utter rage. When asked
to comment the situation the man known for the extreme caution during his own
campaign in Gallaecia revealed:
“
To leave a city so close to enemy’s stronghold without protection is
downright foolhardy. I trust that Pro-praetor Maximus will act fast to save
Segisama to Rome or I would have to take measures to protect the territorial
integrity of Roman province.”
Consul did not agree to elaborate on the matter and at the moment it is difficult
to imagine what he could possibly do to intervene on legal grounds. The malicious
tongues are however wagging that the true reason behind Flaccus’ rage
lies in his 60 estates that he had promised to distribute between his soldiers
and were damaged with the city.
Rumours are spreading that some teenagers has been kidnapped. It seems they
has been initiated to foreign cults arrived recently from Etruria and Campania.
Gossipers are telling that reports about obscene rituals has been submitted
to Censores in the past. Until today no evidence of crime has been found. But
this time, it seems those initiations has been done without any sort of approval
from the parents.
Prodigia
From Oricum (Epirus) is reported that a cow brought forth an hermaphrodite calf. Local people is very worried fearing some is to happen. Immediately, the calf has been sacrified in the local Iuppiter temple in the hope to placate the god.
