A few days ago 40 horses skeletons were fond in 5 different rectangular pits near the Gergovia, or Gorgobina in gallic, hill of glorious memory.
From the few pictures I've seen they are neatly aligned sideways, much like another rectangular pit were the skeletons of horses and men were found a few months back. I think I pit the picture of that one somewhere in here.
Contrary to the previous pit, tentatively dated IIIrd Cent BC, this one could pretty well be associated with the regrettable events at Gergovia.
It could be either the sacrifice of the mounts of fallen warriors, or a propitiatory sacrifice before the battle. Yet again it could be totally unrelated. The archaeologists are only beginning to study the bones.
