Caius Iulius Caesar is sure one of the greatest duces of the ancient world.
Many people think that the its famous military action was the conquest of the Gallia Transalpina.
In my opinion this conquest was not hard and Caesar was never in great danger because the Galli Transalpini was great warriors but less organized, less united, less expert in military strategy and tactics than roman legiones.
Caesar conquered in about ten years all the celtic nation, but we must remember that for the conquest of Hispania the roman Republic was necessary more much time.
For the conquest of the Hispania was necessary more roman blood than the conquest of the Gallia Transalpina.
In my opinion the most difficult battles of Caius Iulius Caesar were Pharsalus, Thapsus et Munda because he fight against roman legiones and against duces romani.
In this battles the military genius (great tactics) of Caesar did the difference to the equilibrium of the roman legiones.
The civil war was the more destructive war after the second punic war fight from roman legiones.
Caius Iulius Caesar won the civil war against Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus and his supporters and became the greatest roman dux.
